Ok, so you understand that you need to add content to your website. You understand that Google gives points for websites with current, relevant content. And, you understand that you also need incoming links to your site as part of your SEO efforts.
Why not kill two birds with one stone? Why not make your content so powerful and useful that others will want to link to what you have to say? Why not, over time, become an expert in your field?
Here are some simple and practical ideas that will help you build links, create valuable content for your website and help get your site found.
- Become an authority. Make your ideas easy to understand by many, those who read your words will want to share them with their friends and colleagues if they feel there is clear, usable information. Edit your work, getting rid of spelling and grammatical errors and typos. Add a privacy policy to your site and about page with a picture of yourself. This may help build your authority in your industry.
- Find industry news and write about it. Making sure to link to the original article. We did this for an electrician as part of our blogging strategy last year. The articles were powerful in search to bring them business and it broadened their scope helping them become experts about electricity. If you make the articles informative and interesting others might link to them.
- Create a list of experts in your industry. This should be a list of experts who don’t do exactly what you offer, but are relevant to your industry. It shouldn’t be hard to find industry experts, Google will be helpful here. Go to each experts site and find information. Be sure to add a link so readers can learn more. A valuable list might get links from readers as well as the experts themselves.
- Write testimonials about products or services you have used and liked. Be specific about what you like, saving others time and resources searching for third party services is a great way to give and could result in links to your information.
- Comment on other blogs in your industry. Leaving well written, relevant and valuable comments on others posts is a great way to let others know about you. Others will visit your site and may link to your content. Also, commenting on postings in Facebook and on other platforms can bring visitors, increase your reach and gain relevant links for your site.
In the end link building and content marketing (blogging) are both long term strategies that naturally will bring value and visitors to your site. Creating a firm foundation for your online business and becoming an authority takes some time and work. Don’t discount yourself or your business by trying to take short-cuts, you’ll be glad in the end.
